All Right Now

Anyone recognize those three words from a Ricky Nelson song?

Anyway… I am doing well. Just want those who follow to know this. I have a lot of “work” to catch up with. So I’ll try to blog again soon. Thanks for your concerns and prayers.

There were some good things that came out of this flu. I try to drink more water. I try to eat regularly. And after finishing read a book called “Eat Move Sleep” by Tom Rath, I try to eat right, exercise and get enough sleep. Until next time.

Getting Mail

ImageI have moved for almost two months now. Each day, back at the old place, I would get a lot of mail. Now they are not all important mail. Most of them are junk mail. But since moving to my new place. I have not been getting a lot of mail – good or junk.

At first it bothered me for a while. Why I ask. You are not getting junk mail. You are getting just the mail that are important. You see, some days there would be no mail in my mailbox at all. And a funny thing happened. I long to see that there is mail in my mailbox. I would be “disappointed” if there were none when I look inside.

So why was that? It is the “reward” system. A habit has been established at the old place where practically every day I would have some sort of mail. It didn’t matter if it was junk or not. I got the “pleasure” or “reward” each day. My habit that I didn’t know about has unconsciously look forward to that little “reward” I get when mail arrive. It wasn’t the mail that gave me pleasure. It was just the fact that I got mail!

This could translate into routines in our lives that we are not aware of that “rewards” us without us knowing it. This could be good or bad habits. I am telling you this because it is usually the bad habits that we want to change. You can change your habits. If you become aware of them.

Now that I know this. I try not to let this old habit disappoint me. In fact, now I am in the process of making sure unwanted catalogues don’t get into my mailbox. Junk mail begone!

(I am not pushing you to buy a book. But I borrow this book from the library and I found it helpful. It is called “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg – understand why you do the things you do and change them if you don’t like them)
